Latest from Ipswich Town: “Kieran McKenna’s tension” allegation amid the battle between Leeds and Southampton, Rotherham’s victory, and an unfulfilling prediction for promotion

Ipswich Town’s thrilling 4-3 victory over Rotherham United sealed the night’s action in the Championship, as promotion contenders Southampton suffered an unexpected home loss.
With the victory over the Millers, Ipswich continued their winning streak at three games and now stand at four points, which keeps them in the running for automatic promotion.

After a dismal start to the season, it appeared as though Ipswich may have blown their hopes of an unexpected automatic promotion. However, three straight victories against Millwall, Swansea, and Rotherham, along with Southampton’s two losses in the previous three games, have given Kieran McKenna’s team genuine optimism.

It seemed as though Ipswich had blown their chances of receiving an unexpected automatic promotion after a miserable start to the season. But Southampton’s two losses in the preceding three games, coupled with three straight wins over Millwall, Swansea, and Rotherham, have given Kieran McKenna’s team real hope.

Ipswich will play again at Portman Road on Saturday when they host Birmingham City. In order to keep pressure on Leeds United, who are now in second position, McKenna will be hoping his squad wins this match as well.

But just after the hour, Hakeem Odoffin gave the Millers a response, and then tragedy struck when Cafú’s penalty in the fourth minute of additional time gave Rotherham a point.

However, Omari Hutchinson’s last-minute goal in the fifth minute of added time saved Ipswich’s blushes and kept the Tractor Boys in the running for automatic promotion.

Kieran McKenna’s response on Rotherham United

“It was a bit of a wild game, wasn’t it?” Ipswich manager Kieran McKenna said to the East Anglian Daily Times following the altercation at Portman Road.

“It wasn’t a terrific start, obviously. We let up a really bad goal due to individual mistakes, and I believe you could argue that we never really recovered our composure defensively after that.

“We never succeeded in gaining the control we want in the game. Nevertheless, we managed to win despite only scoring four goals at home and having room for more.”

Ipswich have played three games in six days, having visited Millwall and Swansea before their Tuesday night encounter. McKenna’s team may have allowed Rotherham to into the game since it was not the best preparation to play away in South Wales just three days before a midweek match.

It’s hard Wednesday, Saturday, and Tuesday. Two difficult road games were played there, with the second one taking place on a ground that was extremely muddy “explained McKenna.

“The second half has a noticeable element of fatigue, particularly given how the game is playing out. Even if we didn’t play well, I can’t condemn our effort because we managed to pull through under trying conditions.

“We need to keep tension out of the stadium and out of the performance. There are 13 games left. That was one of the main messages going into tonight’s game. We were aware that people were coming with the expectation that we would win, and that changed the atmosphere.”
