BREAKING NEWS: Joel Embiid have signed a new contract worth $565million with….

Doing a first-round mock draft in which the Eagles aren’t moving up or down really doesn’t make sense. In his 13 drafts as Eagles general manager, Howie Roseman has only selected the Eagles’ initial first-round pick three times: Fireman Danny at number 23 in 2011, Lane Johnson at number four in 2013, and Jalen Reagor with the 21st pick in 2010. Thus, just once in the last ten years. Because it just doesn’t appear likely to happen this year, the Eagles are going up from No. 22 in my opinion. But for what purpose? A recess? A benefit? A tackle on offense?

O-linemen account for nine of the 32 selections in this draft, dominating the field. Should that occur, it would equal the most offensive lineman selected in the first round ever. In 2022, there were nine.

There are five wide receivers, five edge rushers, six corners, and six quarterbacks. That leaves just one tight end, no safeties, no linebackers, and no running backs.

This would tie the record and result in a total of 19 offensive players. Between 2004 and 2009, 19 offensive players were selected.

How much of a need for a franchise quarterback do the Bears have? Since its founding in 1920, they have never had a starting quarterback in a season with a passer rating higher than 100. In the past 60 years, they have had two Pro Bowl quarterbacks: Mitchell Trubisky in 2018 and Jim McMahon in 1985. Before Justin Fields reached 25, they abandoned up on him. Fields was the eleventh pick in the 2021 draft. Williams is next, and at 6-1 and 215 pounds, he may not have the usual build, but his playmaking skill is unmatched. His touchdown-to-interception ratio was astounding in both his one year at Oklahoma and USC—93 touchdowns and just 14 interceptions—and he possesses the unusual ability to execute off-script throws with incredible precision.
