NBA Executive: Amid Rumors, Bradley Beal Is “Toxic Debt Now” on Suns Contract Following Trade

In the previous summer, the Phoenix Suns risked everything to acquire Bradley Beal and his enormous deal, which included a no-trade clause.

But after the Suns were left with little quality depth behind Beal, Kevin Durant, and Devin Booker, and after being swept by the Minnesota Timberwolves in the first round of the Western Conference Playoffs, it seems the team may have taken a risk with questionable cards. Beal’s season average of 18.2 points per game was his lowest since the 2015–16 campaign.

“Making the move to sign him wasn’t without reason,” an Eastern Conference representative told Fox Sports’ Ric Bucher. However, Beal now has toxic debt. Before Book and KD demand deals and you lose market leverage, you must move on.”

The wording is the same as what ESPN’s Bobby Marks used to explain Beal and his deal the previous week.

“If you’re Phoenix, [Beal’s no-trade clause] should have been a dealbreaker,” he stated on Monday at the 2:00 mark. “That ought to have been an easy win. Currently, you are once more wed to that trade restriction and arguably the most poisonous deal in NBA history. Beal is a skilled athlete. Beal is not a player who makes $50 million a year. The remaining $160 million on his contract is not worth it.
