The 22-year-old is already regarded as one of the most highly-rated players currently playing men’s tennis in the singles category, along with Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz.
Sinner has recently become the world number one after replacing Djokovic, who lost the top spot after having to withdraw from the French Open following a knee injury just before the start of the quarterfinal against Norway’s Casper Ruud.
Following that injury, the 37-year-old had to undergo surgery, which cast doubts about his possibility of participating in the upcoming Wimbledon and Summer Olympics.
The newly crowned world number was recently quoted in a report in which he expressed optimism about Djokovic’s return to the court for the mega-event. According to him, his absence will be a ‘tough loss’ for the competition.
“I hope that Novak comes back as soon as possible,” he said. “Hopefully he can, somehow, play Wimbledon because it would be a tough loss for Wimbledon not having him.”
