Joe Burrow’s Absence from Bengals’ Injury Report Before Week 11 Being Probed by NFL

An NFL inquiry is underway regarding quarterback Joe Burrow of the Cincinnati Bengals’ hand injury.

The NFL is investigating why Burrow was not on the Bengals’ official injury report prior to Thursday’s game against the Baltimore Ravens, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

After Joe Mixon’s touchdown throw, Burrow grabbed at his hand and wrist and departed the game in the second quarter. At the start of the second half, he was declared out of the game due to what was officially described as a right wrist injury.

The Bengals’ social media footage from their arrival in Baltimore is the source of the inquiry. Burrow’s right hand looked like it was wrapped in tape.

The video was eventually removed by the Bengals, but Cincinnati’s WCPO ABC’s Caleb Noe uploaded his own clip, which had a spotlight on Burrow’s hand.

After throwing a touchdown pass to Mixon, Burrow originally tried to test his hand on the sidelines. He attempted a warm-up pass, but the ball slipped out of his grasp, and he was seen shaking his head on the broadcast.

After the game, head coach Zac Taylor told reporters that Burrow’s injury seems to be a sprained wrist.

Earlier in the play, Burrow was struck in the backfield by Ravens defensive end Jadeveon Clowney, who knocked him to the ground. The Bengals quarterback was able to play for a short while despite seeming to cringe in discomfort.

The NFL penalized head coach Mike Tomlin $25,000 and the Pittsburgh Steelers $75,000 in November 2019 for failing to correctly include quarterback Ben Roethlisberger on the practice report.

Burrow completed the game on Thursday with 11 of 17 passes for 107 yards and one score. Since missing Week 17 of the 2021 season, when the Bengals had already secured the AFC North title, he has not missed a single game.

The Bengals, along with the Indianapolis Colts, Buffalo Bills, and Las Vegas Raiders, are one of four AFC clubs with a 5-5 record. According to the AFC playoff rankings, they are ranked tenth.
